Friday 18th June 2004
We left York early on the Friday, but it became apparent that the Saturday
boat diving on the Julieann was going to be called off due to the weather.
So we decided to get the Anglesey dive book out and check the shore dives.
The one thing that became apparent that the shore dive sites in Trededdur
Bay were not going to be easy to find. We did find Ravenspoint Gully but
you would need to be a tight rope walker and a mountaineer. I don't think
I could have climbed down there even without kit.
We did find a dive opposite the
dive shop. The pictures show a diveable gulley but at low tide. We came
back on Saturday morning with the rest of the team to do a morning dive
in the gulley with the plan being to start at the beach and swim down
the gulley and follow the rock clockwise and end up at the beach again.
However the reef goes a long way out to sea and most of use ended a couple
of hundred metres off shore with an ever quickening current. We all ended
coming back up the gulley as it was trying to empty. There were big crabs.
Amlwch had
one main problem from a divers point of view. There were a number of pubs,
but little in the way of places to eat. The pubs near the harbour, Liverpool
Arms and the Adelphi Vaults were quite quiet. But the main high street pubs
were very noisy. All in all the Anglesey weekend was a bit disappointing
due to the lack of ammenities and the weather.
The top pictures show the harbour at Amlwch
with the middle left picture showing the JulieAnn coming round the corner.
