The trip started on Friday
22nd October 2004, when we all left York for the journey up to Oban. First
port of call was the Truck Stop cafe at Lockerbie. We stopped there for
a proper breakfast.
Then carried on to Oban.
Some of the cars stopped at Tarbet for scones and cream. Most arriving
in Oban before the meeting time of 18.00 thus we met in the Oban Inn Pub.
In readyness for loading our gear onto the boat.
At 6.0pm on friday evening, we
assembled at the Railway pier to load our kit on to the Hjalmar Bjorge.
There is plenty of deck space for the kit of 12 divers. The boat is one
of the best if not THE best dive charter boat available.
I currently have no idea how to pronounce the name but will find out. Possibly check out the Northern light web site. The Hjalmar Bjorge provides a fantastic level of luxury.
Mark the skipper at the helm of the Hjalmar
Bjorge.
Rachel and Heather providing a fantastic
level of service.
Heather in the galley. Heather's food was
absolutly first class.
Chris the regulator monkey.
We spent Friday night in Oban. Then dived the
wrecks of Thesis and Hispania on Saturday. We spent Saturday night in
Tobermory and the Mishnish.
Saturday
and Sunday night found the team down at the Mishnish. A band playing an
assortment of Scottish music. For a Dutch band they were quite good. And
by a stroke of luck we missed the Mishnish quiz this year.
Dive X found us Clam Diving. The Instructors
use a teaching oportunity to demonstrate how to get the Clams out of the
shells.
Heather then cooked the clams for tea.
mmm mmm mmm...
Monday night
saw the boat tieing up at Craigure for an over night stay. This was the
first time most of us had the chance to visit Craignure. There is not much
there but there is a nice wee pub called the Craignure Inn. There were local
musicians playing folk music. Craignure Inn has a nice mellow atmosphere
with real wood burner and wooden floors. Very relaxing.
Last day
and Heather cooked a fantastic lasangne for lunch. Rachel took the team
photo before we all disappeared. Next years booking already being discussed.
