York Sub-Aqua Club

York Sub-Aqua Club (YSAC) was established in 1957 and is branch number 50 of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC). The branch currently has over 70 diving members. The York BSAC originally had a club house at Butcher Terrace, by the River Ouse. However, someone forgot to renew the lease and the Council decided to build a Millennium bridge there instead. The branch now meets at New Earswick Sports and Social Club. The branch owns a RIB and a compressor. We do most of our training within the branch and are striving to widen the scope of training we can provide.

It is a little known fact that one of our Honorary members was Lloyd Bridges, who starred in many diving television shows.

Another former member who progressed up to the grand height of First Class diver, went on to form the New York Police underwater team.

RIB

The branch owns a 5.1 metre Humber RIB. There are also 4 members within the club who own their own RIB's. This helps the club to provide opportunities for a larger number of divers to take part in trips, especially to the Farne Islands and similar sites.

Compressor

The club also owns a compressor with multiple storage banks. We run Compressor Operations courses on a regular basis to ensure the safe operation of this valuable asset. (See Training)

Sports Club

The club is affiliated to New Earswick Sports and Social Club. The Sports Club has a bar and meeting rooms, which we use for theory training sessions.

Social Events (and photos from them!)

We also organise various social events - the xmas dinner and annual Chairmans Dinner are always popular.
